Mrs. Patel
I have been teaching for 6 years now, five of which have been in a fifth grade classroom, the other was in a second grade classroom. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in daycare for five years. I have wanted to be a teacher since as far back as I can remember. I have a wonderful two year old son (in the picture to the left) and a ten year old step daughter who is now a fifth grader herself. I have been married to my husband for five years now. I love Georgia football, and during football season you will find me watching football on Saturdays. I have three dogs, one of which is a bulldog and two shizu's.
My teaching Philosophy
Teaching to me is opening doors for children that would never open without a solid education. My goal as a teacher is to make a difference. Teaching is not about having a job or getting a paycheck. I choose to teach because I love the experience and the feeling I get when my students accomplish
their goals. I appreciate that I played some small role in their accomplishments.
Each year, my goal as a teacher is to encourage my students to be the best they can be no matter the situations that they may face. I believe everyone can learn, which means there is no single best way of learning. I teach in groups so that at the end of the week, all of my students have learned a
topic in four different ways. This means that all students have an opportunity to fully understand important concepts. In my classroom, I help students find the answers without giving them the answers. If my students can explain their thinking and come to their own conclusions, then they have actually learned the concepts being taught.
Each year, I work with my students to create goals. I explain to them the importance of setting goals no matter their age or circumstance. I also
share my goals for the year, and we meet routinely to determine their progress toward their individual goals. We also discuss long-term goals, like the career they would like to have later in life. I feel that if I share my goals and successes with my students and celebrate their achievements, they are more likely to continue striving for their goals.
